Also know as Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, the Bengali Novelist and one of the leading minds behind the creation of Bengali pose, literary journalism and social satire.

The Writer of India's National Song was born on 27th of June 1838 and passed away on 8 April 1984 but his work never died and it continues till today as an important position in literature and interestingly in politics too.

literary career and legacy

his earliest publications were in Ishwar Chandra's Weekly Newspaper Sangbad Prabhakar  from there he began his literary career as a writer of verse but destiny has some other plans for him and his talent leads him to the direction of fiction world.

his first print fiction was Rajmohan's wife.It was written in English and is regarded as the first Indian novel to be written in English..Durgeshnondini, his first Bengali romance and the first ever novel in Bengali, was published in 1865.

the novel which changes the whole senerio and gave a sense of nationality and strength amongst Indian was Anandamath(the abbey of bliss 1882)its a political novel which depicts a Sannyasi (Hindu ascetic) army fighting the British soldiers. The book calls for the rise of Indian nationalism. The novel was also the source of the song Vande Mataram (I worship my Motherland)which music was composed by Rabindra Nath Tagore.which inspired many Indian nationalists and is now the National song of India.

the book which was the source of Vande Mataram
book-Anandamath

the novel was highly patriotic but with a contradiction , the novel plot was based on the Sannyasi Rebellion. He imagined untrained Sannyasi soldiers fighting and beating the British Army; ultimately, however, he accepted that the British cannot be defeated. He categorically claimed that the British are not the enemy but friends; the Muslims are the real enemy. Hence, this novel is also termed communal in nature.

Vande Mataram became prominent during the Swadeshi Movement.and till today even after two centuries its in the blood of every Indian. The original version begins with Sanskrit lines, moves to Bengali and then ends with Sanskrit. The song deifies the nation as the Mother — the female symbol of “giving”, and sustenance. But this mother, for all her magnanimous qualities, can also turn violent and vengeful when she needs to.
